Seaside Maternity Portraits in Slaughter Beach Delaware
This has got to be one of my favorite moments as a photographer. It will truly never fail to make me misty eyed! These seaside maternity portraits were taken at Slaughter Beach in Delaware. But what made them special wasn’t the location or the type of portraits. It was the fact that the client was a loved family member.
This was an incredible life moment for me!
Because I got to take my niece’s maternity portraits. Yes you read that right, my NIECE! Fun fact about me is that most of my nieces and nephews are either older than me or really close to my age since my sisters and brothers are 10-20 years old than me.
And now Jemini is having her first baby Greyson which makes me a great aunt at the old ripe age of 24! Growing up Jem and I are were more like sisters. And we look so much alike that my name is sometimes Jemini and her’s is Liz as is the case with large families full of siblings and cousins.
I had so much fun during these seaside maternity portraits laughing, walking around the beach, and even getting in the water for these stunning shots.
So I wanted to share a few tidbits of information for your own maternity portraits (seaside or not!). Especially as we close out the summer season.
A big thing to remember is to be aware of your limitations. Growing a baby is hard work! So don’t try to push yourself if you start feeling overheated and need to cool off. In that same vein, if you plan on having your photoshoot outdoors make sure to bring water and a protein snack to stay hydrated and avoid feeling lightheaded.
One of the biggest stressors when planning your photos tends to be the wardrobe! My biggest piece of advice is to choose something you are comfortable in. Not only will it translate to your photos is you are uncomfortable but you deserve to feel your most beautiful! Choose an outfit that will reflect that.
And don’t forget to think about the setting for your portraits before you decide on an outfit! Think about your surroundings and how you want your images to feel. When in doubt, open up the communication floodgates with your photographer! Be sure to do your research and hire a photographer who you trust creatively to capture this beautiful moment.
And above all, take time to appreciate how amazing you are!
