Laura’s Unique Photoshoot | Maternity Milk Bath Photoshoot | Portraits
Maternity is a beautiful thing. Moms will tell you that it’s a moment in their lives unlike any other. If we think about it, it’s magical. Women can bring new life into the world with their bodies, and that should be documented! I love all kinds of maternity portraits and I strongly believe that (just like with any other photo session) you should go with what feels best for you. I am partial to a particular type of maternity session though! (So much so that I created a portable option for moms-to-be, but that’s a blog for another day!) A maternity milk bath photoshoot just has my heart!
It’s easy to see what’s so special about a maternity milk bath photoshoot but let’s talk about it anyway!
Milk bath maternity photoshoot sessions are so effortlessly ethereal and magical. If you want to unlock your “Mother Nature” side and have that captured forever, this is for you! There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to maternity milk bath portraits. Is it safe? Is it really good for your skin? What should I wear?
Well, every single person is different and you should always ask your practitioner if you have any doubts about your health in a particular situation. That being said, YES milk baths are safe! Some things you can do to keep it safe are making sure the milk stays at a safe temperature and using fresh milk. Also, since milk does spoil, make sure to keep the photo session short and rinse off thoroughly afterward!
Yes, it is good for your skin!
Milk baths are by no means a new practice. Maternity milk bath photoshoots are merely a modern twist on an old beauty secret! The legend is that Cleopatra regularly bathed in milk to keep her skin soft and beautiful, and the science backs it up. The fats in milk can soften the skin and the lactic acid that is found in milk can work as a gentle exfoliant! Plus, just like with a regular ole’ bath, you can add in essential oils for a more relaxed and luxurious vibe.
Wear what makes you feel good! But if you need some suggestions, I got you.
A sheer dress (like the one in this session) or a lace robe photograph beautifully! Other great options are bathing suits or lingerie sets. Whatever you end up choosing, just remember to be true to your personality! That way you’ll feel the most comfortable during your photo shoot. Meet my good friend Laura!
I was so excited about capturing Laura’s maternity photos! We made sure to keep her personality in mind when planning the details of her shoot. She’s into all things witchy and boho! This milk bath look was made just for her.
She chose a sheer black all lace dress for her session. We used beautiful real flowers and fresh lemon slices to compliment her black lace and makeup. (Pro tip: fake flowers sink but real flowers do not!) And we also placed some greenery around the tub for a more ethereal feel.
Congrats to Laura and welcome to the world baby Z! (And check out more maternity portraits on my blog!)
